In a move aimed at invigorating economic ties, India and Canada have launched a joint trade and investment platform. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards fostering direct communication between business communities and encouraging new investment opportunities. According to a joint statement released on Friday, the platform is expected to play a crucial role in bringing industries from both countries closer together and strengthening long-term business partnerships.

The announcement follows Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s official visit to Canada from May 25 to 27. During this visit, Goyal engaged in discussions with key industry representatives and trade organizations. A significant bilateral meeting also took place with Canada’s International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu, where they deliberated on various issues related to trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

The newly established trade and investment platform is designed to provide Indian and Canadian business leaders with a common forum. The goal is to identify new business opportunities, promote investment, and strengthen commercial relations between the two nations. Officials believe that regular dialogue and direct contact will accelerate business activities and open up collaboration opportunities in new sectors.

Besides focusing on business collaboration, both countries have agreed to enhance people-to-people connections. This includes facilitating business travel, encouraging the movement of professionals, and strengthening direct business relationships. Such measures are anticipated to create a favorable environment for investment and trade expansion.

During their discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is considered crucial for their economic relations. This agreement is expected to improve market access, strengthen supply chains, and increase investment flow. Both countries have agreed on a shared goal to advance negotiations and finalize the agreement by the end of the year, which is expected to reduce trade barriers and create new economic opportunities.

Canada’s International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu, announced plans to lead a special trade delegation to India by the end of the year. The mission aims to connect Canadian companies with the Indian market and broaden cooperation between industries in the two countries. Experts believe that these recent initiatives will strengthen economic ties between India and Canada, paving the way for new collaboration opportunities in investment, manufacturing, technology, and other sectors. Both governments are emphasizing the need to make business dialogue more active in the coming times.
